Greetings!
My husband and I just adopted a 9-year old Beardie named Henry. I do not know too much about his prior life - and we are trying to figure out the best bed to purchase for him. I threw a blanket on the floor next to our bed his first night home with us - but he was not too interested in sleeping on it and instead slept on our carpeted floor. The next night, I pulled out an old fluffy matress topper, and he did have an interest in sleeping on that. He does seem to have an interest in sleeping on our bed, but we really do not want to let him do that for various reasons - one being that he had a hard time getting up onto the bed.
Congrats on getting your rescue Beardie! I got my Beardie an "Eddie Bauer" Bed (only because I liked the color and it wasn't too expensive). He didn't like it that much at first. But then I took out some of the stuffing and he liked it after that. I think he just didn't want it to be too full. But I think it worked well that I could take the stuffing out until it was just the right softness for him... so that's what I'd recommend. :-)
Well - the thunder and lightning last night brought a new place to call "bed," - the bathtub. He crawled in and would not be coaxed out, we tried to soothe him to no avail. But, when he heard us heading to bed and the lights went out - well then, the thought of being by himself did not fare well in his mind. So, he bravely jumped out and came to lay down on his fluffy mattress topper beside our bed - but not before a comforting rub down.
The next night was an unusually hot and humid night - and again - the bathtub was his favorite sweet spot for a few hours that night.
I may still get a bed with a removable liner as Rachel suggested - just to get over my guilt at not having a proper bed for him. But, I am realizing he is his own "man," and a lovable quirky one at that :-)
Hello, my 2 Beardies like big cushion beds, not to bouncy though, but most of the time they sleep on the cool tiles, 1 at the front door, and 1 at the back door!, They move about alot at night, cos they get warm, they do go on the spare beds that have doggy blankets on them, but not on our bed, there beds have zip of covers so they are easier to keep clean.
