The breed you love the most

i rescued my boy brian 1 year ago and evan tho he is a dream dog in the house walks are a diffrent matter. If i want to take brian out it has to be when i know there are no cars, dogs, cats or any other moveing objects or eles he will leg it or go mad expecaly at cars. i would love to let him off and run free but last time that happened he ran after a bird and then a car thankful he neva reched the car. i was hopen that someone might have some idear how to snap him out of this as walks are a nightmare.

Suggest some training in a class situation -- until you get some control outside, I would not let him off lead -- how old is he?

Yes - if I were you I would enter obedience classes/training. This will give you and the dog a good time to work together, learning what eachother expect from eachother, and surely help you a long way with your problem.
Remember - an obedient dog is a happy dog that can enjoy freedom.

But it IS difficult getting these problems soved on your own, and especially since he is a rescue dog - shen maybe you don't have his whole history either...

So get professional help, and I am sure you'll have those problems sorted out in no-time!

Good luck.

hi i agree with the other replies. try some recall just in your house, using treats call from different areas of the house, different distances etc to get him wanting to come to you. when he does give him loads of playtime and a treat.

do not let him off lead on your walks until you trust him because you never know what could happen. try tying a rope to his collar to give him some space to test your recall outside if you find it goes well indoors.

and also the classes they sound good for the both of you. i never went but think they are a good idea.

keep us updated though please?

brian has no truoble comeing when called in the house or in the garden we actuly play hind and seek thats is if can stop him following me everywhere brian is my shadow lol.
Had a grate walk with him the other day think its all down to my energy on a walk on the last one i was full of confidence so maybe thats the clue thank you to everyone

thats true about the energy - if you are more excited about him coming to you he will want to. if you use a stern voice because you are mad he wont come then he wont want to come. if you see what i mean. good luck hope you get to enjoy some great walks together.

get the book pack leader by cesar millan. also i'd get the illusion collar found on his web site. i'd follow his advice to the letter. i have read all his books in the middle of the 3rd one now... really great info. i would recommend his books to every dog owner out there.we have and it has made all the difference in the world with our 3 dogs. (2 mini schnauzers and 1 beardie rescue)
