ANY TIPS ON HOW TO KEEP RALPHS BEARD NICE AND WHITE? HIS BEARD SEEMS TO BE MORE DISCOLOURED SINCE HE WENT ON DRY FOOD, I THINK THAT IS BECAUSE HE IS DRINKING A LOT MORE WATER NOW. HE HAD TO GO ON DRY FOOD ( VETS RECOMMENDATION).
I've got the same problem. The only thing to do is to wash his beard every time after eating [but I'm not whether it's going to solve your problem 100%]. soooo.... I simply got used to his brown face and don't pay attention to it anymore ;)
Dry food is definetly a reason why it turns brown. Try to dry off his beard everytime he drinks water. I think I heard that the brown is fungus, and it needs wetness to grow... So keep the beard dry, talcumpowder/potatoflower could help dry it too. If you start feeding it with normal (people) food instead of the dry food, this will help. My dog started to change, to a yellowish, color on the beard last summer, but I have managed to get it white again. A " oh so smelly" remedy is a spoon of vinegar and a spoon of water mixed together, leaving it in for a while, then rinse off. This will kill the fungus, but the dog wont like it...... Theres also some blue shampoos for brightening white fur out there.
Good luck!
Just joined this site and noticed your query, I read a tip some time ago which I have used successfully on both my beardies, which is to use hydrogen peroxide! I use a very weak solution, 9%, which is available from any chemist or pharmacist, and just splash some on a pice of kitchen roll and wipe the discoloured area with it. It will work over a few hours, not instantly. I do this every week or so to keep their beards nice and clean. A bottle from the chemist costs just over £1 or so and lasts for months. It won't harm them at all as it's such a weak solution, it's the sort of strength recommended and used for mouthwashes in humans. But it works.
